Your “Jericho Walk” Requires Persistence!
Imagine the sound of thousands of feet hitting the dry, dusty earth in absolute silence. No shouting, no trumpets, just the rhythmic thud of a massive group of people walking in a circle around a fortified city. On day one, the walls of Jericho stood tall. On day two, they didn’t have a single crack. By day six, the people inside the city were probably laughing, and the people outside were likely exhausted.
From the outside looking in, nothing was happening. But we know how the story ends. On the seventh day, the atmosphere changed, the horns blew, and the impossible became a pile of rubble.
At WIN International Ministries, we want to talk to you about your “Jericho Walk.” You might be on day four, five, or six right now. You’ve been praying for that marriage, trying to start that business, giving your last dime to the ministry, and walking in circles for what feels like an eternity. It looks like nothing is changing. In fact, it might look like the walls are getting even taller.
But here is the insight we want you to hold onto today: Don’t judge the miracle by the first six days of silence. Just because you don’t see the dust flying doesn’t mean God isn’t working on the foundation.

The Power of the Anvil
There is a principle we love to think about when it comes to persistence. Think of an anvil. The hammer strikes it over and over again with incredible force. To the observer, it looks like the hammer is winning because it’s the one making all the noise and doing all the hitting. But if the anvil is firm and hard, it just stands there. Eventually, the hammer wears out, breaks, or is replaced, but the anvil remains.
Your faith is that anvil. The world, the devil, and even your own doubts are the hammers. They keep striking, trying to get you to move, to retaliate, or to give up. But your persistence is your greatest weapon. By standing firm in what God told you, you outlast the opposition. Persistence isn’t just about moving forward; it’s about refusing to be moved backward when the silence feels deafening.

When Everyone Else Has a Plan for You: Penea’s Story
It’s easy to talk about persistence in a general sense, but it’s much harder when you are being pulled in a dozen different directions. We want to share the story of a girl named Penea.
Penea was a teenager who truly loved her parents and loved God. She was the kind of person who naturally excelled at everything. She was strikingly beautiful, highly intelligent, and had a warmth that made people want to be around her. But Penea had a major problem: she lacked clear direction because everyone in her life was trying to draw their own map for her future.
Her parents looked at her beauty and intelligence and saw dollar signs and fame. They wanted her to be a supermodel with her own television show. Modeling agencies were constantly knocking on their door, offering hefty commission payments and contracts that could change their lives overnight. Her parents weren’t trying to be “bad,” they just thought they knew what was best for her.
The church she attended saw her heart for God and her natural leadership. They were constantly pushing her to become a Youth Pastor. They wanted her to lead small groups and speak at every event. They were trying to cast her in a mold that fit their needs, regardless of whether it was her actual calling.
Her friends were a different story. They wanted her to be the “life of the party.” They’d invite her to clubs and outings that she knew weren’t right for her. When her parents said no, her friends would convince her to sneak out. Penea would wait until her parents were fast asleep, tip-toe out of the house, hit the clubs, and sneak back in before sunrise. Her parents never even noticed she was gone, but Penea noticed the void growing in her heart.
Even her teachers were divided: some pushed her toward elite colleges, while others (and some of her peers) tried to influence her toward drugs and alcohol as a way to “cope” with the pressure.
Penea was walking in circles. She was praying, but she felt like she was shouting into a void. She was confused, scattered, and utterly exhausted by the competing voices.
The Breakthrough in the Park
One afternoon, Penea couldn’t take the noise anymore. She got in her car and drove to a local park. She sat there in the silence, away from the agencies, the church committees, the friends, and the parents. She cried out to God with a simple, desperate prayer: “Lord, reveal Your plans for my life. Not my parents’ plans, not the church’s plans: Yours. Make it so clear that I can’t miss it.”
She sat there for a long time. And then, in that quiet car, God responded. It wasn’t a lightning bolt, but a deep, settled peace and a clear mental picture of her future. God showed her that her beauty and intelligence weren’t for the runway or for a title in a church building: they were tools for a specific type of advocacy and service that she had never even considered.
When Penea went home, she sat her parents down and told them exactly what God had revealed. She told them she wouldn’t be signing the modeling contracts.
The reaction was unexpected. Instead of getting angry, her parents were hit with a wave of conviction. They realized they had been trying to live their own dreams through her. They felt ashamed for pushing their daughter toward a lifestyle that would have eventually crushed her spirit. They apologized with tears in their eyes. From that day on, they stopped being her “managers” and started being her supporters.

The Cost of Following the Call
However, the “Jericho walls” didn’t all fall at once. When Penea started following the path God laid out, the “fair-weather” people in her life vanished.
Many of her friends stopped calling. When she stopped sneaking out to clubs, she was no longer “useful” to them. Some of her teachers and mentors started ignoring her because she wasn’t following the “prestige” path they envisioned. Even at her church, some people were cold toward her because she didn’t want to be the Youth Pastor they demanded she be.
But Penea held fast. She kept walking her circle. She made time for God every single day, acknowledging Him as her constant helper. She didn’t try to win back the people who left; she just kept her eyes on the One who stayed.
The Seventh Day Victory
Years later, the “7th day” arrived for Penea. Because she stayed the course and didn’t give in to the pressure, God opened doors that no modeling agency or church committee could have opened. She became extremely successful in her field, using her influence to help thousands of people. She married a wonderful man: a lawyer with his own firm who shared her values and supported her mission. Together, they had five children and built a life of peace and purpose.
We give God all the glory for Penea’s story, because it’s a testament to what happens when you stop listening to the world’s “Day Six” noise and wait for God’s “Day Seven” breakthrough.
Your Breakthrough is Scheduled
You might be reading this and thinking, “That’s great for Penea, but I’ve been walking around my wall for ten years.”
We want to encourage you: God’s breakthroughs appear according to His plan and His timing. You might not get the exact thing you are asking for: Penea didn’t get the modeling fame her parents wanted or the specific church title others wanted: but she got the 7th Day Breakthrough that God had scheduled specifically for her.
Sometimes God tarries because He is busy removing the people and influences that would have ruined your success if it had come too early. Sometimes He is waiting for you to get to that “park car” moment where you are ready to listen only to Him.
The Moral of the Jericho Story: Persistence isn’t just about repeating the same action; it’s about maintaining your faith while nothing seems to be changing. The walls are coming down. They have to. It is a spiritual law. If you stay the course, have faith, and don’t give up, the breakthrough is inevitable.

Let’s Pray Together
We believe that as you read this, God is shifting the atmosphere in your life. We want to invite Him into your specific circumstances right now.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You today alongside our friend who is reading this. Lord, You see the circles they’ve been walking. You see the prayers they’ve prayed in the middle of the night and the tears they’ve shed when it felt like You were silent. We specifically invite You into their finances, their family, their health, and their sense of purpose. Just like You spoke to Penea in that car, speak to them today. Give them a clear vision that cuts through the noise of what others expect. Give them the strength to be an anvil: to stay firm and persistent until the walls of opposition crumble. We thank You that their 7th day is already on the calendar. We trust Your timing and Your plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Word of Encouragement:
Friend, don’t you dare give up on day six. You are closer than you think. The silence of God is not the absence of God; it is often the place where He is doing His most profound work. Keep walking, keep giving, keep expecting, and keep looking up. Your breakthrough isn’t just a possibility: it is a promise for those who trust in Him.
