đľWhen You Donât Know Why â God Does!

Youâre reading this because something in you is tired â not just physically, but deep-down, soul-worn tired. The kind of tired that doesnât go away with sleep. The kind that comes from holding on for too long without seeing anything change.
Youâve probably prayed, gave, and done all you know to do. Plus Youâve probably tried to stay strong. Additionally, more than likely youâve stayed faithful when it felt like no one noticed. Youâve kept smiling when everything in you wanted to break. And yet⌠It still feels like God is still silent. You keep showing up, but it feels like God stopped showing up for you.
It’s normal too, to look around at others being blessed and quietly wonder, âWhat about me?â When you ask this question, Youâre not asking for perfection â youâre just asking for a break, a glimpse of hope, a sign that God hasnât forgotten you. But lately, it might feel like your prayers are just hitting a wall⌠like youâre still stuck in a season you didnât ask for and canât seem to get out of. And maybe the hardest part? You donât understand why God is allowing this â and why Heâs not doing what you know Heâs capable of doing.
Maybe youâve even started to wonder, âDid I miss something? Did I do something wrong?â If you’re like most people, you replay decisions in your head, trying to trace where things went off track. You wonder if your faith is broken, or worse â if God is just⌠done with you. But hereâs the truth that may feel hard to believe right now: youâre not being punished. Youâre not forgotten. And this isn’t proof that your prayers have failed â it’s proof that you’re in a place that many deeply faithful people have stood before you⌠a place called the wilderness.
The wilderness is not empty â itâs where transformation begins. Itâs the space between what you believe about God and what youâre actually experiencing right now. And yes, itâs confusing. Yes, itâs painful. But no matter how it feels â you are not alone here. This season may feel like itâs draining the life out of you, but God sees it differently. He sees it as a space where He’s drawing you closer, not pushing you away. You may not know why you’re here, but God does â and He is not done writing your story.
What you’re experiencing is called the dark night of the soul.
Itâs when your faith seems to offer no comfortâŚWhen your obedience seems to bring no rewardâŚWhen your heart is crying for rescue, but all you hear is silence.
Listen: youâre not crazy. Youâre not weak. Youâre not failing.
Youâre in the same spiritual training ground where some of the greatest people in Scripture once stood. And more importantly â God sees you. God understands you. God is with you.
Even if God feels distant, He is closer than your breath. He may not be ready to reveal why just yet, but He already knows the way.
Understanding the Dark Night of the Soul
Many experience this “dark night of the soul,” here emotions sway, and confusion reigns. It’s normal to feel weary in doing goodâand that is completely normal. Rest assured, God sees your open wounds, and He understands that you are seeking answers amidst your pain. It might feel like God’s far removed, yet the truth is, He is always close, ready to guide you. When you donât understand why, remember that God does. Your struggles can serve as an invitationâ A call for God to fill the void and guide you through these barren times.
Think about Moses, Elijah, and Jesus.
They, too, faced wilderness before breakthroughs:
Letâs look at a few examples:
đ§đ˝ââď¸ Moses
Spent 40 years in the wilderness â rejected, alone, full of questions.
He didnât understand why his life had fallen apart, but it was in that desert that God met him in a burning bush and redirected his entire life to lead Israel to freedom.
đ§đ˝ââď¸ Elijah
He ran into the wilderness depressed and suicidal after doing everything âright.â
He didnât understand why God allowed him to suffer after serving Him so well. But it was there â under a tree, and then in a cave â that God whispered to him, refreshed him, and gave him new purpose.
âď¸ Jesus
Driven by the Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days.
He didnât go there to be punished â He went there to be prepared.
And after the testing, He returned in the power of the Spirit to begin His public ministry.
đđ˝ Whatâs True for Them Is True for You
God may not show you the why â at least not yet.
But He will show you the way, if you keep inviting Him in.
đŹ âTrust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.â (Proverbs 3:5â6)
đŹ âThe steps of a good person are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in their way.â (Psalm 37:23)
But thereâs one thing you must remember:
GODâS PLAN REQUIRES YOUR FULL PARTICIPATION AND COOPERATION.
If you shut downâŚ
If you stop prayingâŚ
If you let bitterness or exhaustion winâŚ
You may remain in a place called âalmost thereâ â but never get through.
đ ď¸ Practical Steps YOU can take to Stay Connected in YOUR Dry Season
Here are some spiritual disciplines that will help you hold on:
đď¸ Daily Surrender Prayer â Even if itâs short, pray:
âLord, I donât understand this, but I trust You. I give You permission to redirect me.â
đ Soak in the Psalms â Let Davidâs raw honesty and Godâs faithfulness minister to your own wilderness.
đ Write Down Your Prayers â God often responds through the written word as your own heart is laid bare.
đľ Worship Without Answers â Praise in the pain is powerful. It declares: âEven if I donât know why, I believe You do.â
đ Stillness and Listening â Donât just talk to God. Sit quietly. Let Him speak when Heâs ready.
đą Youâre Not Being Punished. Youâre Being Prepared.
Youâre not here by accident. Youâre not forgotten.
This is not the end of your story.
Itâs a sacred space â where God is waiting to be invited to do something new in you and through you.
Be patient.
Keep praying.
Trust God.
Let’s pray, đđ˝
âGod, I feel abandoned and confused. I donât understand why Iâm here or why Youâve allowed this. But today, I invite You in. I give You permission to work in me and through me, even when I donât see the purpose. Lead me, redirect me, strengthen me. Help me not to grow weary in well doing. I surrender again, and I trust that You know the way. In Jesusâ name. Amen.â
