Keep your Resilience in the Rubble!
Sometimes, life doesn’t just throw a curveball; it feels like the entire stadium collapsed right on top of us. We look around and all we see is dust, broken dreams, and the heavy weight of things that didn’t go the way we planned. We’re standing in the middle of what we call “life’s rubble.” It’s that place where you are just plain tired, discouraged, and honestly, a little fed up. You’ve prayed until your voice is hoarse, yet the heavens seem silent. You’ve tried every strategy, but nothing seems to work.
We want you to know right now: we see you, and more importantly, God sees you. Being “sick of going through it” isn’t a sign of weak faith; it’s a sign that you’re human and you’ve been carrying a heavy load for a long time. But there is a strength that doesn’t come from our own muscles or our own bank accounts. There is a resilience that grows precisely when things are at their worst. Even when you feel abandoned or lonely, Jesus is present in your sufferings. He hasn’t forsaken you, and He is about to show us how to find beauty in the brokenness.
The Beauty of Staying When Everything Says “Run”
When we think about rubble, we often think about physical destruction. In Aleppo, Syria, the rubble isn’t a metaphor; it’s the reality of the streets. A few years ago, when the conflict was at its peak, most people were doing the logical thing: they were fleeing. But a small group of pastors decided to do something that looked completely nonsensical to the world. They stayed.
These “Stay-ers” didn’t have a massive international organization backing them. They received no special funding, no prestigious awards, and for a long time, not even a “thank you.” They simply opened their doors to over 50 displaced families who had nowhere else to go. They chose to stand as a beacon of God’s love and hope while the world around them was literally falling apart.

They stayed because they knew that God is the God of the rubble. They understood that when we feel like there’s no help coming, that is often when God performs His most profound work. Their resilience wasn’t based on how much money they had in the drawer, because usually, there was none, but on the conviction that God can and God will fix it. By choosing to stay, they became the hands and feet of God who never walks away from us when our lives get messy. If you feel like you’re at a point where you have no visible applause or support, remember these pastors. Your faithfulness in the quiet, difficult places is creating a light that the darkness cannot put out.
Finding Peace in the Pressure Cooker
While some face physical rubble, others face the rubble of extreme pressure and persecution. In the underground churches of Iran, believers live under a weight of stress that most of us can barely imagine. They risk everything just to gather and whisper the name of God. Yet, when you talk to them, they describe something miraculous: an “inner peace that doesn’t make sense.”
How is that possible? How can someone feel calm when their circumstances are terrifying? It’s because they have discovered that walking with God isn’t about the absence of trouble; it’s about the presence of a Person. God helps them by shifting their focus from the “what” (the pressure) to the “Who” (the Provider). They have learned that even when they are scared and discouraged, there is a hidden well of strength available to them through the Holy Spirit.

You can find this same peace today. If you are under extreme pressure, whether it’s financial, relational, or emotional, you don’t have to wait for the circumstances to change to feel better. You can ask God for that “peace that passes understanding” right now. It is a gift that Jesus gives to those who are surviving the wilderness. Resilience in the rubble starts with a quiet heart that says, “I don’t know the way out, but I know the One who is the Way.”
From Escape to Encounter: The Coffee Shop Church
Sometimes, the rubble of our lives makes us just want to hide. We look for any way to escape the pain, the noise, and the constant struggle. In the middle of the invasion of Ukraine, a young girl found herself looking for such an escape. She wandered into a covert coffee shop that was operating underground. She wasn’t looking for God; she was just looking for a momentary distraction from the sirens and the fear.
But what she found wasn’t just a caffeine fix. That coffee shop was actually a church in disguise. What started as an attempt to “escape” her reality turned into a life-altering “encounter” with the Living God. God used the very circumstances that were trying to destroy her peace to lead her into a relationship with Him.

This is a powerful reminder for us: God often uses our “rubble” as the backdrop for an encounter. You might feel like your hard or unchanging circumstances are a prison, but God sees them as a platform. When we stop trying to just “get through” the day and start asking, “God, where are You in this?”, the atmosphere changes. The benefit of this shift is massive. Suddenly, your stressful situation becomes the place where you see God’s favor and light. It changes your perspective from “Why is this happening to me?” to “What is God doing through this?”
Easy Steps to Build Your Resilience
We know that “resilience” can feel like a big, exhausting word when you’re already tired. So, we want to give you some simple, everyday tactics to help you keep going when the rubble feels high:
- Acknowledge the Tiredness: Don’t pretend you’re okay if you’re not. Tell God exactly how fed up you are. He can handle your honesty.
- The “Five-Minute” Faith Window: When the future feels overwhelming, don’t look at next year. Just trust God for the next five minutes. Faith is a muscle that grows one small step at a time.
- Look for the “Small Mercies”: In the rubble, look for the tiny things, a cup of coffee, a kind text, a sunset. These are God’s “love notes” to you, proving He hasn’t forgotten you.
- Speak Bold Words: Even if you don’t feel it, say it: “Jesus is with me. He is my strength. He is reversing this situation.” Your ears need to hear your mouth declaring God’s truth.
- Find Your “Coffee Shop”: Find a place (physical or spiritual) where you can stop trying to escape and start trying to encounter God.

Why Faith is Necessary for the Impossible
We must remember that faith is not just a “feel-good” emotion; it is a vital necessity. Faith is the bridge between the rubble we see and the restoration God has planned. It is the ability to see the impossible and believe that God is already working on the solution. Without faith, we are stuck looking at the broken bricks; with faith, we start to see the new foundation God is laying.
God specializes in reversing bad decisions and hostile situations. He is the Master of the “U-turn.” If you’ve made mistakes that added to the rubble, or if unfair situations have piled up against you, know that God is above all circumstances. He is ready to open up new streams of income, unexpected blessings, and a hope that will make you dream again.
Don’t give up on your prayers. Just because you haven’t seen the answer yet doesn’t mean the answer isn’t on the way. God is a master builder, and He is often doing His best work deep underground where we can’t see it yet. Trust Him to be your guide as you try again.
Let’s Pray Together
We want to invite you to take a deep breath and pray with us. No matter where you are or how much rubble is around you, Jesus is right there.
“Lord God, we come to You today alongside our friend who is feeling so tired and discouraged. Lord, You see the rubble in their life. You see the unanswered prayers and the situations that just won’t seem to budge. We invite You right now into the middle of this mess. We specifically ask that You would enter into their home, their mind, and their circumstances.
Jesus, be the peace that doesn’t make sense. Be the strength that helps them stand when they feel like falling. We believe that You are a restorer of all things. Please reverse the hostile situations, heal the hidden wounds, and give them the resilience to keep moving forward. Let them feel Your hand holding theirs today. Reveal Your plan, open new doors of favor, and let them see that You have never, ever forsaken them. In Your powerful name, Amen.”
Be encouraged to know that God is with you in your rubble! He is with you! He will help you! And He will guide you through your rubble! You are a lot stronger than you feel because the God of the universe is living inside of you. The rubble doesn’t define your future; God’s promises do. Keep your eyes on Him, and watch how He turns your site of destruction into a place of beautiful construction.
