Rest can be “YOUR” healing balm when YOU’RE exhausted!

Dear friend,  you may be sitting in front of your screen today, exhausted from the daily grind—juggling your job, your family, your responsibilities.

It can seem like you’re always in motion, always trying to keep all the balls in the air.  You’ve probably been working, grinding, showing up, praying, helping, healing, pouring out, cleaning up, standing in the gap, managing everybody else’s chaos—and trying to survive your own. You’ve been running on fumes and trying to produce fire.  You’ve probably been worshiping on Sundays and worn out by Monday. Let’s be real: more than likely you are finding yourself exhausted again.

If you’re not sure if you’re exhausted or not, ask yourself the following questions?

  1. Do I wake up tired even after a full night’s sleep?
  2. Am I always feeling overwhelmed by the endless to-do list?
  3. Do I struggle to find joy in activities I once loved?
  4. Am I unable to make decisions without feeling drained?
  5. Do I feel guilty when I take time for myself?
  6. Am I easily annoyed with others or snap at other because I am tired and don’t want to be bothered because I am tired?
  7. Do I avoid friends or family members, jobs, or activities because I am exhausted?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, You’re feeling this way because you’re caught in a cycle of constant productivity. And it’s okay to admit it! You’re not alone. So many of us are juggling demanding jobs, nurturing our marriages, caring for our families, battling health issues, and wrestling with financial worries. In the constant whirlwind of responsibilities, it’s easy to feel exhausted and burnt out.

You might think that if you keep pushing through and working harder, you’ll get ahead. But what happens when it feels like every ounce of energy you give is met with more demands? You feel trapped, like you’re on a hamster wheel going nowhere. You may be caught in the cycle of always needing to do something—helping, fixing, answering, producing. But dear one, this is not the way God intended for us to live.

It’s crucial for you to understand this truth: a theology of rest is not just a suggestion; it’s a requirement for a healthy, joyful life. You need to embrace the idea of rest, something that often feels foreign in our fast-paced society. Our souls need space to breathe, think, and simply be.

God Created Rest for You

Did you know that God Himself rested on the seventh day? Even God—the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, the Everlasting Father—rested on the seventh day. And if God needed rest, why do you think you can survive without it? He created the Sabbath not just for a tradition but as a gift—a time meant for you to recharge, refocus, and reconnect with Him. Resting is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity in your journey.

Rest is not a weakness—it is worship.
It is a command. It is spiritual. It is warfare. It is surrender.
Some of you are waiting on a move from God, but you’re too weary to hear Him.
Too mentally drained to discern.
Too emotionally taxed to receive.
Too physically worn out to move when He says move.
And you wonder why answers seem delayed.

Could it be, that your miracle is waiting on your rest?

🧘🏾‍♀️ HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO BUILD REST INTO YOUR LIFE:

  1. Schedule a Sabbath. One day a week. Non-negotiable. Protect it like your life depends on it—because it does.

  2. Take short rest intervals. Five minutes in the car. Ten minutes with worship music. A moment of silence. It counts.

  3. Nourish your body. Eat something fresh. Drink water. Move your body. A tired body houses a foggy spirit.

  4. Start saying “No” more often. Every open door is not your assignment. Every request is not your responsibility.

  5. Create sacred space. A chair, a corner, a room—where you meet with God with no pressure to perform.

  6. Take mini-vacations. A walk in the park, a local hotel stay, or even a long bath. Retreat is not defeat.

  7. Ask for help. You don’t have to carry this alone. Pride says “I got it.” Wisdom says, “I need help.”

  8. Unplug. Step away from emails, texts, and calls for a few hours. The world won’t end—but you might if you don’t.

  9. Nap unapologetically. Even Jesus slept through a storm. Be like Jesus.

  10. Invite God into your rest. Make rest your sanctuary. Let Him restore your soul there.

  11. Naps: Never underestimate the power of a short nap. Just 20-30 minutes can do wonders.

  12. Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors to clear your mind and refresh your soul.

  13. Mindfulness Practices: Engage in meditation or deep-breathing exercises to center yourself.

  14. Digital Detox: Take a break from social media for a day—allow uninterrupted time for connection with God and family.

  15. Change Your Mindset: Instead of seeing rest as unproductive, view it as an investment in your well-being.

  16. Healthy Boundaries: Say “no” sometimes, freeing yourself from the strain of overcommitment.

Resting is essential.  Again, Resting is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity in your journey. Sometimes, the reason you haven’t seen certain prayers answered yet isn’t because God is ignoring you — it’s because you’re too tired to receive what He’s trying to give. You may be praying from a place of depletion, asking for clarity, direction, or breakthrough, but without the strength or capacity to actually carry what God wants to reveal. Some answers require margin. Some promises require space in your soul. God, in His kindness, may be holding back not to punish you, but to protect you — knowing that your current mental, emotional, or spiritual state couldn’t sustain the very thing you’re asking for. That’s why resting is just as spiritual as praying. Pausing is preparation. Rejuvenation is part of receiving. Some of the things God has promised you haven’t fallen through — you just need to heal enough to hold them. Rest isn’t the opposite of faith. Sometimes, it’s the doorway into it.

When you’re running on empty, everything feels urgent. You pray harder, press in more, fast, plead — not because you’re full of faith, but because you’re desperate for something to change. But exhaustion can distort your discernment. When you’re weary, even God’s blessings can feel like burdens. Even His answers can feel confusing or overwhelming. And He knows that. He knows the state of your heart, your mind, your nervous system. That’s why sometimes, the delay isn’t denial — it’s divine compassion. He’s not just giving promises — He’s preparing you to sustain them. If you’re too depleted to enjoy the healing, too anxious to recognize the open door, too overwhelmed to steward the opportunity — is that truly an answered prayer? God doesn’t just want to give you good things. He wants you to be well enough to receive them fully. That’s why rest isn’t weakness. It’s readiness. It’s a sign that you trust God to move even when you stop striving.

🕯️ INVITE GOD INTO YOUR MOMENTS OF REST

Don’t wait until you break down. Don’t wait until the burnout forces you into a place of collapse. Make rest a spiritual rhythm.
Sit in silence and say, “God, meet me here.”
Do this repeatedly and often.
Inhale peace. Exhale pressure.
Rest is where God revives you, reveals Himself, and restores your strength for the journey ahead.

Because, when you truly rest, God begins to rebuild.

💥 EXPECT GOD TO MOVE AFTER YOU REST

Get ready. When you finally make space, God will speak.
He will heal.
He will whisper what’s next.
He will give you revelation, provision, and strength you didn’t even know you needed.
Rest is the soil where your next breakthrough will be planted.
Rest will revive your worship.
Rest will reignite your vision.
Rest will resurrect what burnout tried to bury.

In this season of life, as you seek restoration and healing, may you find the courage to rest and make the space to rest.

Just as God rested, so too should you.

Together, let’s lift this up in prayer:

Heavenly Father,
We come to You, tired, worn out, stretched thin, and frayed at the edges.
We confess—we’ve been running on empty. We’ve been trying to do everything for everyone, and we’re weary.
But today, we give ourselves permission to rest.
Lord, breathe on us again.
Meet us in the stillness.
Heal our hearts in the silence.
Restore our minds as we pause.
Help us to honor the Sabbath and not feel guilty for the stillness.
Speak to us in the quiet.
Revive every broken place.
And when we rise again, let us rise with clarity, joy, strength, and fresh fire.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen. 🔥

You are not a machine. You are a soul.
And God loves you—not for your output, but simply because you are His.
