Ever feel like you’re a walking target for every struggle the world can throw at you? We’ve seen it happen time and again: just when you think you’re gaining a little bit of ground, something reaches out and yanks you right back to where you started. Maybe it’s that “just over broke” bank account that refuses to grow, or the job that keeps promising more hours or better pay but never seems to come through. Maybe you finally start healing emotionally, and then one phone call, one argument, or one reminder from the past pulls you right back into stress. For some, it looks like doing your best to move forward while co-parenting chaos, court issues, or family conflict keep draining your energy. For others, it looks like recurring health problems, a business that will not take off, car trouble at the worst possible time, doors closing without explanation, or a deep weariness that makes even simple tasks feel heavy. It feels less like a journey and more like a tug-of-war where you are the rope, and you’re losing.

We want to talk to those of you who are currently dealing with long-term suffering. We’re talking about the kind of setbacks that don’t just last a weekend but seem to define your whole year. Unexpected sickness, waning resources, and those small, annoying snafus that happen at the exact moment you can’t afford them: these aren’t just coincidences. If you feel stuck, fed up, and totally over it, there is a spiritual reason for that tension you’re feeling.

The Enemy’s Invisible Anchor

It is important for us to recognize that there is an active force working against your progress. The enemy knows exactly what God has in store for you. He knows that God wants you blessed, healed, thriving, and moving forward with a clear head and a full heart. Because he can’t stop God’s ultimate plan, he tries to slow you down by throwing blocks in your path.

These blocks often come disguised as “just life happens” problems. He uses people you know: and sometimes people you don’t even know: to create friction. He anchors you in bad situations, hoping you’ll become so disappointed and discouraged that you simply give up. When you are stuck in a “broke” mindset or a “fed up” emotional state, you stop looking for the exit. That’s exactly where the enemy wants you: anchored in a harbor of hopelessness, watching everyone else sail by.

Here is how you can understand the Tension of the Pull-Back

But here is the truth we’ve learned at WIN International Ministries: that backward pull you’re experiencing isn’t always a sign of defeat. In God’s kingdom, things often look like they are going the wrong way right before they go exactly the right way. We call this the Divine Slingshot.

Think about how a slingshot works. To get any distance, to get any power, and to reach the target, the projectile has to be pulled backward. The further back it’s pulled, the more tension is placed on the string. If you were the pebble in that slingshot, you’d be screaming that you’re going in the wrong direction! You’d feel the pressure, the tightness, and the fear of being stretched to your breaking point.

However, that backward movement is actually positioning. Without the pull-back, there is no launch. Without the tension, there is no momentum. When life keeps trying to pull you backward, it’s often because the Holy Spirit is putting tension on the string before a massive launch forward into your purpose.

Why Does God Allow the Stretch?

We have to be clear about one thing: most of the time, God didn’t cause the sickness, the drama, or the financial drought. We live in a fallen world where the enemy is busy. However, God allowed the tension. Why? Because He is a master at taking what was meant for your harm and orchestrating it for your launch.

He allows the tension because:

• It builds spiritual muscle: You learn to trust Him when your resources are waning, not just when they are overflowing.
• It clears the path: Sometimes the pull-back removes us from the wrong people or the wrong places so we have a clear shot at our destiny.
• It creates momentum: The energy generated in your season of “waiting” and “suffering” becomes the fuel for your season of “thriving.”

If you feel like you are at your breaking point today, realize that you aren’t breaking: you’re being aimed. God can fix it, but He often does the deepest work in us while we are in the “pull-back” phase.

How to Survive the “Just Over Broke” and “Fed Up” Seasons

1. Reframe Your Frustration: Stop seeing the setback as a sign that you’ve failed. Start seeing it as “positioning.” Tell yourself, “I’m being pulled back because God is preparing a massive launch.”
2. Pray for Continual Assistance: Don’t just pray once. Ask God for daily strength to handle the “snafus.” When the baby mama drama starts or the car breaks down, immediately turn to Him and say, “God, I need Your help to stay in the slingshot and not jump out.”
3. Keep Trusting the Aim: God is the one holding the slingshot. He knows the target. He knows the timing. Even when you can’t see where you’re going, trust the One who is holding you.
4. Audit Your Circle: If the enemy is using people to pull you back, ask God for the wisdom to distance yourself from those who anchor you in the past or try to cause problems, division, discontent, or pain so that you stay down, stuck, discouraged or depressed.

Choose to seek God more, so YOU can move from Stuck to Launched

Faith is the essential ingredient here. We need faith to see the impossible: to believe that being “broke” today is just the setup for being a “blessing” tomorrow. God specializes in reversing bad decisions and hostile circumstances. He is above your “just over broke” status. He is higher than your medical report. He is bigger than any drama trying to steal your joy.

When you turn to God and stay in that position of trust, you are essentially telling the enemy, “You can pull me back, but you’re only making my launch more powerful.” You will get to the other side. You will walk into the plans and purposes God has for your life. The sickness, the lack, and the discouragement are temporary; the launch into your calling is eternal.
